Alma Olivera

4th Grade

Get to know ME!
Hello, my name is Alma Lidia Morfin Olivera. I come from a family of immigrants and was born in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. My parents immigrated to the United States when I was three years old. I did my K-3rd grade in Richfield, California. After Richfield, due to lack of work my parents decided to move to San Lucas, Ca. I finished elementary school there. We then moved to San Ardo, California and have been living here since my freshman year in the year 2002. I have lived in small communities my entire life and love it. After high school, I got married and my family began to get bigger. I have four children and there is no boring moment in my house. In the year 2015, my husband got laid off work and I was lucky enough to find a job as a custodian at San Ardo School. I worked very hard and created long-lasting relationships at this school. I would have conversations with teachers and hear their stories about their journey on becoming a teacher. My family, best friend, and co-workers/friends encouraged me to go to school and pursue the career I dreamed of. I finally decided to stop making excuses and just enroll in a university. After 4 years of hard work and support from my family and friends, I am excited to finally graduate from WGU and get the degree and credentials I have been longing for.

Why teaching? Growing up as a minority I had teachers who treated me different and others who pushed me to do my best. Thanks to the teachers who believed in me and pushed me to always do my best, I knew I wanted to pay it forward one day. Teaching to diverse students gives me the opportunity to pay it forward every single day that I am teaching. I will be the teacher who believes in every single one of her students and always pushes them to do their best.

I am excited to begin my first year as a teacher at San Antonio School and I am looking forward to getting to know the students and the community and begin making long-lasting memories.
